New Teacherwall in ACS School Cobham Surrey.
Fusion have installed teacherwalls with unusual layouts for ACS International school in Cobham Surrey. Several of the 3 teacherwalls are stepped to fit under a sloping roof. All of the 3 classrooms are in an Early Years teaching building aimed at a 2 – 6 age range. All 3 incorporate smart screens and have whiteboard doors.
The design process involved close liaison with an architect who was working on a refurb scheme. A number of design alterations were proposed by Fusion Classroom design to simplify some of the construction elements, and to take account of the fittings including the integral trays and the smart screen.

The sloping ceilings in the two upstairs classrooms have been addressed in a simple approach. Rather than scribing panels to fill the gaps it was decided to use the stepped format and create extra storage sections.
All the teacherwalls have been scaled down in terms of ‘break’ height. Typically a break would be set at 725mm which corresponds to desk height for a teachers desk to be integrated. Smart screens and tray spaces are all set below this level, with whiteboard doors above. For an infant / early years installation we have reduced the break height to 550mm, lowering the screen height and the whiteboard doors. the whole effect is to make the scale seem smaller. The 550mm break, and overall design scheme for the classroom, is to make the space more child friendly for sitting on the floor or at tables. There’s a slight trade off as teachers have to address the children, and use the teacherwall, at a lower level as well. The design intent is to set the teaching focus for the child’s eye level, rather than adult level.
