Refurbishment work for Woking College

Woking College have engaged Fusion Classroom Design to carry out a phased program of refurbishment to a number of college buildings, and to furnish several new buildings on the growing College estate. Entire teaching blocks have undergone a thorough refurbishment to upgrade the look and feel, with dry-lined walls, redecoration, and furniture upgrades. The phased program of refurb works stems from two added buildings, one a new-build, and one a local community centre repurposed for college use. This has allowed a process of moving departments in a rolling program, with the refurb work being carried out between each relocation. As the college refurbishment company Fusion have tackled most of the internal works, in conjunction with a direct contractor for replacement of the heating systems.

Classroom furniture for the new building.

A new-build block has been added in the carpark area, with two floors of classroom space, a Learning Resource area, and several staff offices. Furniture for the whole block has been supplied by Fusion. The classrooms are a mix of IT and general purpose spaces. Staff offices include a 10-person office and several 2-person offices.

Staff Room Redesign.

One of the first steps was a redesign of the main Staff Room. Providing a mix of spaces the Staff Room can be configured for the SMT meetings, lunchtime breaks and small interview sessions as well as a relax space for staff.  The redesign trialed a dry-lining approach to the pre-cast concrete walls aimed at hiding the ’60s fabric of the buildings used throughout 3 of the largest, and original, College buildings. Subsequently this has been applied throughout the teaching spaces making the classrooms and circulation areas seem more modern.

Display Easels for Art Block.

Amongst the refurb works Fusion have supplied mobile art display easels. At 2.4m x 2.4m these are giant panels, on wheels, that are demountable. Fabricated in two interlocking sections they can be dismantled and stored, ready for use each year for the A Level art exhibition.

The mix of refurb work includes general redecorations, demolition of a steel-framed wall between two classrooms, and associated carpet works. We’ve designed room layouts to ensure the best orientation, added doorways and closed up others. Worked in attendance on pipe fitters as they’ve renewed the heating systems. And supplied furniture of every type. A real program of refurbishment that we’re proud to say is helping Woking College to look like a modern 6th form with Ofsted Outstanding.
