ICT Classroom & Learning Resource Hub for Cuddington Primary
Fusion have handed over a term-time classroom refurbishment scheme for the Learning Resource Hub – an integrated ICT Classroom and Library at Cuddington Community Primary. The transformation of the classroom into a ‘learning resource hub’ has been described as ‘amazing’ by staff.
The classroom suffered from a very low ceiling and relatively small windows as well as a number of routes through the space to offices beyond. Our classroom designers developed ideas to brighten the space, adding a feeling of height using led panels with a sky image running around the entire room, joining the ICT area with the library space to give the hub a sense of flow and integration.
Our meadow graphic digital wallcovering design was used to decorate the learning resource hub classroom, and new saw-tooth ICT benches installed in a layout that wraps around a central column to make a feature out of a structural impediment. Both these elements help to bring the space together and provides continuity to an otherwise divided room. The printed blinds add the final element of scene-setting.
Learning Resource Centre Design
The crisp white backdrop and modern graphic style helps the learning resource centre classroom to feel up-to-date, whilst the sky ceiling lifts the space without competing against the purpose of the classroom as a space designed to be a learning resource hub.
Working on the classroom refurbishment during term-time has meant careful planning of logistics and access, with specialist trades being escorted at all times by our site supervisors. Fortunately the classroom at Cuddington is the only classroom on the upper level and was taken out of service for the 3 week work duration.
On the day of handover several members of staff visited the new learning resource centre and remarked that its a room they’d love to spend time in, peaceful and tranquil, in a space that was previously compromised by the architectural challenges of giant columns and a low ceiling. The ICT bench itself was described as being very spacious, and gives scope to use as a general learning resource surface as well as for ICT use. The image below shows the cable management cover lifted off to reveal power and network sockets contained within the ICT bench, with space to conceal wiring and transformers.
