Teacherwalls for Whybridge, East London School.
Fusion have designed and installed 9 teacherwalls at Whybridge Junior School in east London. Every classroom is slightly different and required careful surveying to ensure every dimension was accurately recorder and reflected in the configuration drawings. Previously the classrooms were a mix of furniture, different display screens, chalkboards and whiteboards. Streamlining the classrooms with 9 teacherwalls has made a great impact on the style and appearance, not to mention the improvements for teachers.
Integrated whiteboards.
Every one of the new teacherwalls includes large whiteboard doors. The teaching staff were delighted to find these are double-sided, whiteboard on both the outer and inner faces. Staff have devised ways to use both sides, opening doors to reveal answers to quiz questions and other ‘reveal’ information. Our teacherwalls have the whiteboard doors either side of the smartboard to maximise the central focal point for pupils. Pictures of the clasrooms show the large whiteboard doors in the closed position, and opened out the reveal the reverse side.
Integrated teachers computer.
The integration of a teachers desk is pretty typical for teacher walls. Unusually at Whybridge the head didn’t want a desk as such. Instead we designed a built-in cubby. The screen is permanently on view. The keyboard tray is fitted in a pull-out drawer. All cables are neatly routed through the cabinets, and linked to the adjacent smartboard. Fusion ensured power sockets were accessible and provided setting-out drawings for electrical installations. A pull out keyboard tray isn’t al that common and shows our commitment to provide a customized service to clients.
As well as the integrated IT, Gratnells trays are positioned within each teaching wall. We fit standard runners and provide new trays, and any existing trays can easily be re-used.
Fusion used the design & drawing process to ensure coordination of trades. This meant that installation time was productive, with minimal cutting and scribing on site. The bulk of the work took just two days for the cabinets, without the smartboard or IT fitments which were added subsequently. The result is a good example of how the design process for teacherwalls can help greatly when work actually starts.
