New ICT suite design for Ursuline Prep School
Ursuline Prep in Wimbledon have invested in a new ICT suite design, planned and installed by Fusion Classroom design. Given a clean sheet to transform a conventional teaching room into a new purpose designed ICT classroom Fusion devised an eye-catching set of semi-circle benches, with one outer arc and one inner arc.
The inner arc also has a cushioned bench seat set inside the semi-circle for use when small groups use the classroom as a reading and activity space. Maintaining dual-purpose use for the classroom helped the ICT room design to hit all the objectives.
Refit with a new raised floor.
Fusion carried out the entire refit of the classroom. A raised floor was installed to create a tiered floor. The outer arc sits approx 125mm higher so that the viewing angle to the teaching wall isn’t obscured by the inner set of monitor screens. The out arc has a central access divide to help with circulation space, making it easier for the teacher to cut through front to back rather than walk all around the outer arc.
The raised floor also provides a neat cable route for the outer arc of the circular classroom computer furniture.
School colours for Ursuline Prep are a strong shade of green. This has been picked up in the bright green chairs, as well as the secondary green of the carpet. Used alongside the clean white ICT desk surfaces the design intent is a fresh and bold colour palette that should be timeless and in keeping with other teaching spaces in the school.
The age range at Ursuline Prep is 4 years to 11 years. The KS1 children mainly use the ICT classroom for reading work. The inner seating bench is a great way to use the centre area for the younger children, making the ict classroom seem familiar.
As part of the school refurbishment project Fusion also caried out extensive work in another school building to create a drama and stage with auditorium seating. Click here to see images of this phase of the refurb. Or see our Case Studies page showing all the images.
