Classroom chairs and school chairs offering solutions to the challenges of ergonomics, convenience and durability. Chairs for school and college environments are cost-conscious and very robust but increasingly have a design-led approach as well. School seating typically include plastic school chairs and wooden construction for fixed chairs. Adjustable school chairs have a gas lift with 5-star base. Other types of school chairs fall outside these regular formats. Size range from primary to adult ensures school chairs are the right height for the age range.
Hard surface chairs are the most popular type, standing up well to the rigours of school life. Most ranges can be specified with upholstered seat pads to improve the sit-comfort. Stacking chairs are a good solution enabling classrooms to be more easily cleared, or for chairs to be stored in a small space. The material used can be an important aspect. Plastic is often lighter and lower cost. Wood can be more durable and make a more significant design statement that adds to the style in, say, an art and design classroom.
For many years education establishments have been looking for the perfect solution, a classroom chair that fits in with the new image conveyed in Academy and BSF build projects, a chair that gives postural support, that is built to last and is affordable for all. Typically this will be a polyprop chair with a stacking steel frame. Alternatives include fully moulded chairs with integral legs. Steel framed chairs are ultimately longer lasting, however moulded modern classroom chairs are lighter and visually more contemporary.
Types of School Chair
Several ranges include options for writing tablets, linking devices and storage baskets for rooms that use tutorial layouts. Fusion are happy to supply classroom chairs for demonstration / trial because we know that investment in furniture should involve more than just looking at catalogue images. As ergonomics and postural thinking impact upon design for classroom chairs so testing a product becomes more important. Fusion have a very wide range of school chairs to meet any requirement.
The size of a school chair has been determined via British Standards. The seat height ranges from 310mm for age range of 4-6 years, 350mm for 6-8 years old, 380mm for 8 to 11 years, 430mm for 11-14 years of age and 460mm for 15 years an older.
School desk chairs will often have some form of swivel and may include a gas lift. This can make chairs more adaptable to a wider age range and can improve the ergonomics in classroom chairs. A gas lift and wheeled base may also fit in better with the demand for modern classroom seating.
